The beaches
Siesta Beach, Crescent Beach and Turtle Beach sit on Siesta Key. The sand is 99% quartz, which is why it stays cool underfoot in full sun. Siesta Key Village is a short distance from the beach for food and an evening.
Gardens and wildlife
Marie Selby Botanical Gardens is dedicated to epiphytes, orchids and bromeliads in particular. Sarasota Jungle Gardens has been open since 1936. Mote Marine Laboratory and Aquarium runs marine research on City Island.
On the water
Ted Sperling Park on Lido Key has mangrove tunnels that can be paddled by kayak or paddleboard.
Arts
The John and Mable Ringling Museum of Art is the state art museum of Florida, established in 1927. The Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall programs touring work through the season.
