There are many people who are unhappy with the way their teeth look. Often people will simply put up with this, assuming there’s nothing that can be done about it – particularly people who have severely stained, cracked or misshapen teeth. However this doesn’t have to be the case.
Veneers are a cosmetic dental solution that are used to treat all manner of imperfections and enable almost anybody to get the smile they’ve dreamed of.
Who can benefit from veneers?
You can benefit from veneers if you have any of the following issues –
- Cracked teeth –
If your teeth have been cracked for any reason then this can look very unsightly, particularly when the most prominent teeth are affected. - Stained teeth –
Stained teeth are something that countless people want to correct. Teeth whitening is an option but it doesn’t provide a long-term solution in the same way that porcelain veneers do. - Crooked teeth –
Crooked teeth are another very common issue that veneers can be used to correct. The teeth themselves are not straightened but the gaps that appear as a result are filled – leaving your teeth looking perfectly straight. - Gaps in your teeth –
Spaces between your teeth are often not a result of cracks or chips. Some people simply have gaps in their teeth naturally. Unfortunately such gaps usually aren’t aesthetically-pleasing but can be corrected with veneers.
Which type of veneers are right for me?
There are more than one type of veneers and deciding which is right for you is very important since there are some key differences. The two types of veneers are composite veneers and porcelain veneers. Let’s look at composite veneers first.
Composite veneers, as the name suggests, are made from composite resin material (the same material that’s used for fillings) and can usually be completed in a single appointment. Composite veneers last for approximately 4-8 years depending on the patient and how well they’re cared for. Composite veneers can be used to treat most aesthetic problems, including gaps, cracks, staining and crooked teeth.
Porcelain veneers are a much longer-lasting solution and require a significant amount of preparation before they’re applied. Unlike composite veneers, porcelain veneers must be specially made at a dental lab for each patient. Porcelain veneers can last for 25 years or longer with proper care and are also resistant to staining, making them an excellent long-term solution.
